Blake Orlandi is the Chief Operating Officer of Book of the Month Club, one of the leading subscription-based E-commerce companies in the world. Along with Chief Executive Officer John Lippman, Blake Orlandi’s strategic and tactical approach to subscription-based commerce are helping the Book of the Month Club expand their business and reach out to a new generation of enthusiastic and passionate book readers.
It is a business success story by any measure and the United States is dependent on the success of small businesses like Book of the Month Club. From 2000 to 2017, small businesses created 8.4 million net new jobs while large businesses created 4.4 million. In other words, small businesses accounted for 65.9% of net new job creation during this time. There are 30 million small businesses in the United States.
Blake Orlandi completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, studying there from 2001 to 2005. He obtained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the prestigious Harvard Business School (HBS) in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 2012.
Blake Orlandi joined Deloitte Consulting in February 2006 after completing his studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined as a Business Analyst and was then promoted to Strategy and Operations Consultant, where he worked until May 2008. Orlandi then joined Evergreen Copyrights where he served as Manager of Acquisitions and Business Development until December 2009. He was promoted to Director of Acquisitions and Business Development at the startup music publishing company, which eventually was sold to KKR, a well-known private equity firm.
Blake Orlandi joined Book of the Month in 2015 and since then he has been working hard with a team of 45 employees to come up with new ways to attract and engage readers who have many other competing outlets for their leisure time attention, including smartphones, streaming media, gaming and the vast amount of free content available online.
But there is something very special about a real book, the thrill of holding something tangible in your hand and the bittersweet exhilaration of finishing a favorite book. Reading is also a social experience and executives like John Lippman and Blake Orlandi understand that their company has a larger purpose than profit.
Blake Orlandi has served as director of the charitable organization Every Child, Inc.
Every Child is a nonprofit human services agency serving children at risk as well as birth, foster and adoptive families in Allegheny and surrounding counties.
